BFA Student Profile Series: Erik

Each week we will be featuring a student from our class for our Student Profile Series, where you can get to know more about the person both inside and outside of the classroom.

Ask Erik Bue anything and he’ll tell it to you straight. Yes, white is a color (and his favorite one at that). The bald eagle is his favorite animal because, simply put, “They are awesome.” And there’s no disputing the fact that he enjoys his mom’s cookies (with, of course, his beverage of choice milk to go with them).

What has been your favorite BFA project so far?

The city branding project was my favorite project so far. It was very challenging, but I learned a lot and was pretty happy with how the final product turned out.

Favorite color:

White…it’s a color.

Favorite typeface:

Akzidenz Grotesk (Condensed) and Arno Pro

Favorite artists and/or designers:

Michael Beirut. I was introduced to him during the first project of the BFA program and was really inspired by his work and design philosophy.

What would be your dream job? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

My dream job is to be the creative director of my own design studio. In 10 years I hope to have somewhat solidified my reputation in the design community and possibly have started my own studio by then.

Interests outside of design:

Playing roller hockey, working out, listening to music

What did you want to be when growing up?

A carpenter…I just wanted to build stuff really.

Favorite animal:

Bald eagle, because they are awesome.

5 things that make you happy:

My mom’s cookies, listening to music, hanging out with friends, laughing, being in the sun

Something you want to learn how to do:

Successfully code an awesome website

Top 3 music artists:

Currently: Pianos Become the Teeth, Youth Lagoon, La Dispute

Favorite cartoon character:

Dexter from Dexter’s Lab

Best or most inspiration performance of any kind that you’ve seen?

Probably the Bon Iver concert at the Greek Theater in Berkeley. I love everything the band has put out, and seeing them perform at such an amazing venue was pretty incredible.
